A Bit About Us and the Area
We would like to welcome you to South Cornwall, where we have enjoyed regular
family holidays for over 30 years, eventually making our home here in the
Spring of 1997. We now live in a typical 19th Century former Blacksmith’s
cottage, where the original working forge and adjacent barn have been converted
into beautifully appointed, self contained, holiday properties. The Old
Forge and Meadow Barn have their own gardens and stand in our own mature
two acre garden, which is surrounded by moorland and fields, just 1 mile
from the picturesque fishing village of Coverack.
All the properties on our web site are privately owned, well appointed and personally inspected by Lindford House Holiday Cottages. We can assure our guests that during their stay there will always be someone available to deal with any problems that may arise to ensure that guests have a comfortable and trouble free holiday.
The Lizard Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the warmest place in mainland Britain, enjoying the full benefit of the Gulf Stream. The South West Coastal Path winds its way around the Peninsula providing exceptionally beautiful walks and much of the area is owned by the National Trust who ensure that it remains preserved and unspoilt.
Coverack, once a notorious smugglers haunt, is one of the most beautiful of Cornwall’s fishing villages with its small harbour nestling in the south side of the bay. It has a sand and pebble beach and a windsurfing school, where tuition is available. There is a pub, Post Office, general store, two gift shops, an art gallery, cafes and an ice cream parlour.
The busy village of Mullion boasts a golf course, pubs, shops, restaurants and a quaint harbour, and the sandy coves of Poldhu, Church and Gunwalloe are nearby.
South West of Helston, home of Flambards Theme Park, is the Penrose Estate with woodland walks around Loe Pool to the popular fishing village of Porthleven with its attractive harbour-side shops and restaurants. There is a long sandy beach and coastal walks in both directions from the harbour.
The softer, greener landscape of the Helford River with its creeks and inlets, provides another face of this beautiful region. The charming coves of Gillan and Flushing offer safe bathing and sailing tuition and boat hire is available at nearby St Anthony. There are superb cliff walks over National Trust land to the tiny fishing village of Porthallow with its shingle beach, Five Pilchards Pub, Art & Craft shop and tea room.
There are walks to the Helford River and Frenchman’s Creek from the pretty village of Manaccan, with its old thatched Inn, bistro and Post Office/store. The picturesque Helford village is nearby, with its thatched cottages and views across the river.
Just a few miles north of the Helford River is the village of Constantine with its pub and village store. The famous Seal Sanctuary at Gweek is close by. There are beautiful tropical gardens at nearby Trebah and Glendurgan and Falmouth, with its long, safe, sandy beaches and beautiful natural harbour, is only 4 miles away.

The famous Flambards Village at Helston which is our local market town and home of the "Floral Dance", is open during the holiday season, with the nearby Seal Sanctuary at Gweek an added attraction. The largest earth satellite tracking station is very close by at Goonhilly, where there is a visitors’ centre, with tours operating during the holiday season.
Roskilly’s Croust House Tea rooms at St Keverne offer wholesome home made food and ice cream and visitors can watch the cows being milked or amble through the withy woods and meadows to relax by the ponds. There are also evening barbecues and a picnic area.
You could also visit The Lizard Countryside Centre and pottery at Trelowarren, near Mawgan and taste the wine at the Vineyard in Porthallow. There is also a Diving and Angling Centre at Porthkerris, one mile from The Manacles rocks, the scene of many shipwrecks.
For the golfing enthusiast, there is an excellent eighteen hole golf course at nearby Mullion. Further afield is the Poldark Mine at Wendron, near Helston, which is a fascinating underground adventure for all the family and the English Heritage castles at Falmouth and St Mawes are well worth a visit.
For sparkling white beaches, exotic plants, abundant wildlife and magnificent views, why not travel to the Scilly Isles by air or sea from Penzance.
There are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Trebah and Glendurgan, on the Helford River and the Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey. You will find information packs about local places of interest in all our holiday properties.
For visitors to the Eden Project, tree frogs and lizards have joined birds and praying mantises as part of the Eden Project's tropical approach to pest control. The Eden Project is within easy driving distance of all our holiday properties.
