South West of Helston, home of Flambards Theme Park, is the Penrose Estate with woodland walks around Loe Pool to the popular fishing village of Porthleven with its attractive harbour-side shops and restaurants. There is a long sandy beach and coastal walks in both directions from the harbour. Helston is home to the Furry Dance on Flora day, which takes place each May. Local ladies dress in long dresses and beautiful hats and the men wear morning suits and dance through the streets and shops throughout the day – there are also childrens’ dances and local people consider it an honour to lead the dances.
